 A world of difference from my wahl September 9, 2010

Just had my first cut with the Oster and it's head and shoulders above the $40-$50 Wahl I previously owned which would always miss hairs and took forever having to go over my head 3 times.
The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is, one they don't have a 4 1/2 star rating and lastly because of the poor quality of the plastic guide combs which don't seat very secure over the cutter. I would recommend getting the separate Oster accessory kit that I saw for around $25, which I plan to purchase next.

Like alot of others, I had a Wahl before and wanted to 'upgrade' to something, I hoped, would be more powerful, durable, and, especially, quieter. But I found this to be actually worse. I think it's alot louder--especially with the guards on--to the point that it's annoying to use...it is NOT "Whisper Quiet" at all; it's not really any more powerful, that I can tell anyway; and if you're looking to have the option of the 0 close trim with no guard this will not do it--at least the Wahl did that.
The only better thing I can tell so far is the guards clip on tighter and stay on, which I've always had trouble with the Wahl's.
To me, this is not worth the more than double price, and I've been clipping for 20 years. This will probably be the first thing I'll take the trouble to return through Amazon.

Cuts great, very fast, feels heavy duty. I cut my hair every two weeks and expect this clipper to last 20 + years. Much better than my previous Andis clipper at the same price. The only downside is that it comes with only three guard sizes; 1/4", 1/8". and a blending shear-(close to a 1/16")

I purchased these clippers a few weeks ago and used them for the first time. They worked Great! I hope they will continue to clip well in future uses.

Quiet, cuts well and quickly, doesn't jam up like my old one.
The only thing I don't like about it, is that it doesn't cut short enough. I've always shaved my head with no guard, and my last one was able to cut and leave just a very short rough stubble. This one, even though you can adjust it shorter with no guards, leaves too long of a stubble/shadow on my head so it looks like I already have 3 or 4 days of growth when it's a fresh cut. Now I have to cut my hair twice a week instead of just once. Not something that I enjoy taking the time to do.
Next time I'll pay attention to the description of the shortest length, and buy a model that cuts shorter than this one.
